Now that Lane Kiffin is the 37th head coach of LSU, he said at his inaugural press conference on Monday that his focus is on building the best roster possible.
Kiffin has been given the money to build a superstar roster. He met with the No. 1 recruit in the nation, Lamar Brown, on his first night in Baton Rouge. Brown will sign with LSU on Wednesday afternoon and headline the top-tier recruiting classes Kiffin plans to bring.
“Our immediate priority is assembling the best staff in the country and securing top talent,” Kiffin said at his introductory press conference. “The mission is simple: bring the best players in the country to LSU. It starts right here in the state of Louisiana.”
Out of the 15 hard commits LSU has, according to 247 Sports, 10 are from Louisiana, including Brown and the No. 1 defensive lineman in the country.
Kiffin said that, along with Brown, more unnamed recruits were present at the football operations building the night of his hiring to meet with him.
He credited much of his success to the great players he had on past teams. Him and his staff’s ability to use high school recruits and the transfer portal to “put the best collection of players together” set them apart.
“Our number one focus right now is to sign the best class we possibly can,” Kiffin said.
LSU, as a brand, is a strong draw for all high school recruits and will match well with Kiffin’s history of recruiting success.
That success was clear at Ole Miss with his ‘Come to the Sip’ campaign. Kiffin is 50 years old but is able to connect with the young men he wants to build his football program around.
Kiffin spoke strongly about LSU and the new staff’s ability to get the best player out of high school and out of the transfer portal.
“It makes me want to get on the phone right now,” Kiffin said.
Kiffin’s strong recruiting connections are even present in his own household.
Kiffin’s son, Knox, is a 2028 quarterback that LSU has on its radar. Knox has publicly stated that he does not want to play for his dad, but perhaps a change of scenery will keep him interested in joining the Tigers.
