LSU Men’s basketball breaks their SEC 0-4 losing streak with a 78-70 win over Missouri.
From the opening tip, the Tigers owned the glass, controlled the pace, and got shots up from all over the floor.
Marquel Sutton took over where it mattered most, pouring in 26 points. This was Sutton’s best game while pushing through defenders, sinking 10 out of 14 free throws, and attacking the rim.
“They felt like I had an advantage in the high post area, so they were just giving me the ball and letting me go to work. I’m just grateful they trust me with the ball…,” Sutton said on how he played with his team.
Scoring a combined total of 46 points, Sutton and Max Mackinnon led the charge. Mackinnon stood out with 20 points, four of those coming from beyond the arc.
“I trust my work,” Mackinnon said. A simple yet powerful statement as he is learning how to play bigger and more efficiently in and out of the paint.
Even without Dedan Thomas Jr. and Jalen Reed, LSU’s substitutes stepped up sharply across the court. Rashad King played tough defense, using his length to contest and disrupt Missouri’s offense. Freshman guard Jalen Reece acted like a seasoned player, keeping LSU ahead from start to finish.
Head Coach Matt McMahon stated that his team has gotten a lot better and is improving.
Late in the game, Missouri’s Jayden Stone looked to jump-start a comeback, trying tough baskets. Still, relentless pressure from LSU kept Missouri off balance, keeping any real momentum out of reach.
Missouri struggled to grab rebounds while also struggling to score efficiently, led LSU to stretch their lead to win.
With this win, LSU is now 1-4 in conference and 13-5 overall. The Tigers are picking up a massive momentum boost while heading into a tough on the road matchup against the Florida Gators.
