Welcome back to What’s Geauxing On! On Tuesday, LSU Campus Life hosted Mardi Gras Mambo on Tower Drive.
Just a few days before Mardi Gras, the university hosts a free event for students to get into the spirit.
“We just want to give you a little taste of Louisiana, and our culture,” said Cortney Greavis, Associate Director for Campus Engagement and Traditions at LSU.
Activities such as bead making and face painting were the hot spots of this event, and LSU organizations also came out to share some of their information. From king cake to beignets and jambalaya, LSU Dining provided all the iconic Louisiana dishes.
“I love the partnerships that we do with the different departments putting this on. We have a lot of registering organizations who are a part of it. We have a lot of our departments on campus who come out and be a part of it,” said Greavis.
Not only is this a great time to try some delicious local recipes, but also a chance for students to practice their bead-catching skills. The LSU Student Government, cheer team and Tiger Girls were seen throwing beads to excited students from the LSU float.
“I also love the students who are not from Louisiana, their faces, their expressions, getting to try king cake, getting to try beignets and some of our Louisiana food that we have, and so just sharing our culture with students,” said Greavis.
Overall, this event was a great way to introduce Mardi Gras to LSU students, and prepare them for the fun times to come. Laissez les bons temps rouler!
