Following victory in the Tigers first game of the LSU Invitational against Nicholls State, LSU kept the momentum going strong against Memphis in game two with a 11-2 victory.
In the battle of the Tigers, it was Memphis who struck first thanks to a sac-RBI in the top of the 1st inning. LSU had a runner on base thanks to a walk, but were unable to capitalize as Maci Bergeron struck out.
After Memphis left a runner stranded to start the top half of the second, the bottom half of the inning saw a massive shift in momentum for LSU. The party in Tiger park was started off by Kylee Edwards, as she tied the game all at one with a solo-shot homer. The Tigers took the lead thanks to a RBI double from Jayla Lassiter that gave LSU a 2-1 lead.
Following the RBI double, the majority of the bottom half of the inning saw the Tigers in a bases loaded situation. The first player to capitalize off the situation was Tori Edwards, who knocked in a RBI single to put LSU ahead by three. After Maci Bergeron was walked, which resulted in another run being put on the board, Alix Franklin brought in two runs thanks to an RBI single that ended Memphis’ inning of horror.
On four hits, LSU were able to bring in seven runs in just the bottom half of the second but the runs only kept coming in. The third inning saw another bases loaded situation for LSU as thanks to a wild pitch, another two runs were brought in to give the Tigers a 9-2 lead.
The final nail in the coffin on the evening was thanks to Destiny Harris who hit a two-run shot to end the evening early for Memphis.
With day one wrapped up, the Tigers find themselves at 2-0 in the LSU Invitational, and will face off against Iowa and Memphis once more on tomorrow.
