The LSU Softball team picked up their first win in conference play Monday night against Texas A&M after losing the first two games of the series.
A big reason for this was starting pitcher Tatum Clopton. Clopton was brilliant on the mound as she allowed only two runs (one earned) and scattered five Texas A&M hits. A few of these hits came in the last inning when LSU was already in cruise control.
This energy Clopton brought helped rejuvenate the Tiger offense as the team tallied more hits in this game than the first two of the series combined. Head Coach Beth Torina has been very pleased with the way Clopton has matured as a leader.
“It’s like coaching an adult. You know it’s coaching an adult. It’s someone you can have a real conversation with, you can, you know, look eye to eye, heart to heart, whatever you want to call it,” Torina said.
LSU’s scoring began with a solo shot to left field off the bat of Louisiana native, Alix Franklin. Additionally the team saw major contributions from freshman Ci’ella Pickett as she went 2-3 with an RBI.
The most important hit for the Tigers, however, came off the bat of 2025 All-SEC Second Team member Maci Bergeron. Prior to her 2-RBI double in the sixth inning, Bergeron was 0-2 and it looked like she was going to prolong her slump yet another game.
If Bergeron can turn it around and get back to her 2025 form, LSU’s offensive attack will look completely different and very dangerous for the rest of the SEC.
LSU (19-9, 1-5) will look to build off this offensive outburst as the squad travels to Columbia to take on the South Carolina Gamecocks this weekend in a three game series beginning on Friday.
