LSU Baseball Head Coach Jay Johnson spoke to the media ahead of LSU Baseball’s series against Oklahoma. The Tigers are coming off a 7-1 win versus Grambling State this past Tuesday.
The Tigers have not gotten off to the best start by LSU standards, dropping their first SEC series to the Vanderbilt Commodores. The Tigers showed good fight in the Vanderbilt series and Johnson is hopeful for his guys.
“There was a lot of mind improvement with the team over the last five games,” Coach Johnson said. “And, I think that gives us a chance.”
The midweek games don’t hold a lot of pressure and many Tigers have been able to see some time at the plate and it the field. Coach Johnson believes these midweek games are vital to improving throughout the season.
“Playing time is the best coach you’re ever going to have in your life,” Coach Johnson said. “And, really pleased with the way those guys threw the ball. And really pleased with the way those guys threw the ball.”
The LSU defense will have its hands full dealing with the great athletes the Sooners have. Johnson noted how the infield must be on top of their game because of the speed of the Oklahoma team.
“This is as fast of a team I’ve ever seen,” Johnson said. “The ball goes on the ground,e it’s going to be a close play at first base. Good job by Oklahoma recruiting athletic players. So eliminating the free bases, pitching well, super important and then obviously handling the ball in the infield will be super important.”
LSU Baseball kicks off against Oklahoma on Thursday, March 19 at 7 p.m. CT inside Alex Box Stadium.
