LSU Women’s Basketball fell to the Duke Blue Devils 87-85 in the Sweet Sixteen round of the NCAA tournament. Head Coach Kim Mulkey spoke to media afterwards dissecting highs and lows from the game, their season, looked ahead to what’s next and even addressed retirement rumors.
Though the Tigers ended their night with a loss, Milaysia Fulwiley’s performance was a highlight for the team as she ended her night with 28 points, 18 of them coming before halftime.
“She’s just hard to guard,” said Mulkey when asked about her thoughts on Fulwailey’s performance. “She just gave us a spark when we just started real lethargic,”
Mulkey also spoke to the slow start that seemed to plague the Tigers potential win.
“I ask myself as a coach, ‘Why did we not start like that’,” said Mulkey in reference to the team picking up the pace in the 4th quarter. “You just kind of think as a coach, what made us like that?”
Looking into the future of the team, Mulkey stated what was next for the Tigers and where the team goes from here.
“You’re looking at a team that is very talented, freshman got lots of minutes this year.” “I plan to hire two coaches quickly, I plan to get in the portal and get two or three more players,”
During the game, someone claiming to be an insider LSU source stated that Kim Mulkey would be retiring after this season. Something she says is completely untrue.
“I’m going to be in this game unless LSU fires me, until I can’t put a product on that floor that’s not competitive or my health fails me,”
The Tigers now head back to Baton Rouge to what’s sure to be an interesting offseason for the Purple and Gold.
