LSU Women’s Basketball Players Milaysia Fulwiley and Mikaylah Williams spoke to the media after the 87-85 point loss to the Duke Blue Devils in the Sweet Sixteen round of the NCAA tournament.
Fulwiley, despite the loss, had a career day with 28 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists off the bench for the Tigers. She spoke to her performance on the court.
“Just trying to do anything to help my team win, and I think I was finding the right spots and that helped me,”
Despite the high of Fulwiley’s peformance, the whole team couldn’t put together a complete one. Issues that plagued the Tigers in some of their earlier regular season games reared their heads again on the biggest stage.
“We didn’t get those key rebounds that we needed and that kind of put us in the situation that we were in in the first place. said guard Mikaylah Williams when asked about the game being decided by a buzzer beater. “So, I guess we got to go back to the drawing board and figure some things out.”
Williams also spoke on the feeling watching the season end on the note that it did, and vented personal frustration.
“Frustration. As a competitor, obviously nobody wants to lose, especially like that. And then knowing that there was a lot of things that was us that had us in that position. And then frustration for myself, knowing that I’m back here again in my junior year, not making it to the Final Four.”
Another season of falling short of expectations for the Tigers that they say they’ll use as fuel to power the next.
“The same thing I’ve said for two years,” said Williams. “Uh, remember this feeling, get better, and hopefully make it back here next year and get over this hump.”
The Tigers will head back to Baton Rouge where the offseason replenish is starting.
