LSU welcomed Ole Miss to Tiger Park for the first time in two years, and the Tigers would take the win from the Rebels late in the game with a final score of 6-4.
LSU was the first to put runs on the board, with Kylee Edwards sending a solo shot over the wall to put the Tigers up 1-0 in the bottom of the first.
However, Ole Miss freshman Madi George hit a homerun in the top of the 2nd, evening out the score.
Neither team scored again until the fifth inning, when the Rebels’s Persy Llamas hit a two run homerun, as well as Mackenzie Pickens bringing in Kennedy Bunker to make the score 4-1.
Head Coach Beth Torina put in pitcher Paytn Monticelli soon after, and she allowed 0 hits in the two innings she pitched, earning her fourth win in the circle with the help of Jayden Heavener.
Monticelli knew she was being thrown into a tough position, but she had no worries
“It doesn’t feel any different than anything else I’ve ever faced before because I’m kind of used to it.”
LSU rallied in the bottom of the sixth with the help of an RBI single by Kylee Edwards and an inside the park grand slam from Tori Edwards.
The Tigers were having a hard time putting runs on the board as a result of the 9 walks they drew heading into the sixth inning.
Head Coach Beth Torina knew Ole Miss’ game plan and her and her players made sure they knew how to combat it.
“I thought they did exactly what we asked them to do. Flood the bases. Have some patience, still be aggressive on the right ones.”
Friday night’s victory marks LSU’s first win against Ole Miss since 2024, and the Tigers are hoping to win a series against the Rebels for the first time since 2021.
The Tigers will face Ole Miss in game two of the series Saturday at 5 p.m. CST in Tiger Park.
