LSU Baseball lost 7-2 in the second game of the three-game series against No. 9 Texas A&M.
Right-hander William Schmidt took the mound for the Tigers in hopes to halt the hot Aggie bats and give LSU some momentum in the series. It started off well for him as he cruised through the first inning, but the Aggie bats didn’t stay quiet for long.
A three-run second inning gave Texas A&M a lead that never vanished. Jarrion Wilson continued his impressive series driving in the first run on a single before the very next batter, Bear Harrison, smoked a two-run home run to left field.
LSU responded in the bottom half of the inning as Steven Milam hit a monster home run to right-center field, cutting the deficit to two runs. This was the only hard-hit ball hit off Aggie starter Aiden Sims.
Sims was dominant in the start, going seven innings and only allowing two runs. The second LSU run came in the fifth inning, when Chris Stanfield drove in Mason Braun from third.
On the other hand, the Aggie offense went wild on Schmidt, tagging him for seven earned runs. Gavin Grahovac hit a mammoth home run before two sacrifice flies made the score 6-2. A&M pushed the seventh run across in the sixth inning, when Grahovac tallied another rbi, giving us the final score of 7-2.
On the Brightside for LSU, the bullpen was lockdown headlined by Marcos Paz’s strong two innings of work. However, the offense did not help the cause leading to defeat.
The loss brings the LSU record to 23-17 overall and 6-11 in conference play. The Tigers will wrap up the three-game series against the Aggies on Sunday at 1 p.m.
