LSU Baseball’s Coach Committee is the oldest booster club in all of LSU Athletics. After being founded in 1984 by legendary Tiger manager Skip Bertman, the committee is seeing a storm of donations from die-hard Tiger baseball fans in support of current head coach Jay Johnson.
The storm of donations comes after a viral tweet by @coyote_operator on X, asking LSU fans to donate $10 dollars in support of Johnson amidst the thought of him taking an MLB job. Since this tweet and help from others like “Walk it off” host Paul Jarrett, the committee has seen well over 10k in donations.
“Me and him (Coyote_Operator) had a talk and then it just blew up, and then we decided, ‘hey, donate to the coach’s committee,’ and the community stood behind us and supported us and supported this program.” Jarrett talked about the viral tweet and his help in donating to the committee.
Jarrett pitched in with the support by giving away a signed Dylan Crews LSU jersey to a fan who donated at least $25 to the committee. To nobody’s surprise, the Tiger faithful listened to the call for help.
“The baseball fanbase, as a whole, really truly loves Jay Johnson and wants him here and believes that we are very lucky to have him here. We dont want to see him going anywhere.” Jarrett said about the fanbase’s response to the situation.
While most fans donate no matter the cause, some ask the question, “why is it important to donate now?”
“It’s 100% a response to the thought that Jay could take a Major League Baseball head coaching role.”
After winning two men’s college world series with the Tigers in 2023 and 2025, Johnson was asked about the possibility of taking an opportunity to coach an MLB team, following the hire of former University of Tennessee Baseball Head Coach Tony Vitello getting hired by the San Francisco Giants this offseason.
Johnson was very adamant in his response that his place is here at LSU. While this comes as a relief to most, the fans want to make sure that Johnson stays in Baton Rouge.
