LSU baseball drops its 19th Southeastern Conference game with Thursday night’s 11-8 loss over the Florida Gators in game one of its SEC series.
Despite trying to find momentum after last weekend’s rough series against top ranked Georgia, the Tigers started off inefficient on the mound.
Sophomore left-hander Danny Lachenmayer allowed six runs and four hits in the first inning, digging the Tigers an early hole to start the series. Eventually, it took a pitching change for LSU to combat the Gators offense and end the inning.
The Tigers didn’t come alive on offense until the bottom of the third inning, drawing in three runs with the help of a wild pitch by Florida pitcher Aiden King and Derek Curiel hitting a double down right field. The sophomore center fielder ended his night scoring two runs with his four at bats.
Meanwhile, LSU’s Raegan Ricken seemed to make his mark after coming out of the bullpen within the first four innings, striking out five batters and allowing two runs. However, Head Coach Jay Johnson continued to rotate through his pitching staff throughout the game, ultimately giving seven different players a chance at impacting the game on defense.
However, the changes on the mound did not stop Florida. The Gators were able to tally up 11 runs over a struggling LSU team, despite players Omar Serna Jr., Steven Milam and Chris Stanfield giving the Tigers opportunities up at bat nearing the end of the game.
Thursday night’s loss to the No. 9 Florida (35-18, 16-12 SEC) marks LSU’s fourth consecutive SEC loss.
LSU (29-25, 9-19 SEC) will hope to bounce back in game two of its series against Florida on Friday at 6:30 p.m. CT.
