LSU cut more than two dozen positions within administrative offices Thursday to redirect funds toward faculty and research, according The Advocate.
A total of 25 positions have been eliminated across administrative departments, including marketing, student engagement and executive departments. These changes are reflective of LSU’s goal of becoming a top 50 research university under LSU President Wade Rousse.
“Louisiana deserves transformational change from LSU,” Rousse said. “I committed to streamlining operations and finding efficiencies so the university can focus on, and afford, the faculty needed to become a top 50 research institution.”
LSU will redirect the funds from the eliminated positions to increase faculty, a step that Rousse believes is necessary to achieve the university’s research goals.
Ranking in the top 50 research institutions would not only increase LSU’s academic prestige, but also potentially bring in more grants. Already, LSU has made strides in research, having recently surpassed $600 million in annual research activity, breaking a record of growth for the fifth year in a row.
