Holiday Movie Preview: Naughty vs. Nice

As Thanksgiving and Christmas approach us, everyone gets into the holiday spirit—especially at the movies.
This season, there may be plenty of holiday films to choose from, but not all of them are necessarily worth seeing in theaters. Let’s take a look at what new holiday films are nice and those that are naughty.

1. Best Man Holiday (In theaters now) - Nice

This sequel comes 14 years after the original film, The Best Man, and is definitely worth seeing in theaters.

If you haven’t seen the original, it’s worth watching as well, but you don’t necessarily need it to get through its successor.

The hilarious (and gorgeous) ensemble cast, from Nia Long to Terence Howard, make this film a must-see this holiday season.

2. The Christmas Candle (In theaters Nov. 22) – Naughty

Now, if you’re really into old-timey British accents and stories about magical candles, don’t let me sway you from seeing this movie.

However, with no notable names and a bit of a bizarre plot, I have to play the role of Scrooge when it comes to this film. The whole preview gives me Hallmark Movie Channel vibes and I can’t really understand how it made it to theaters.

If you’re in desperate need of a family-friendly Christmas movie, just wait until this comes on TV, or just see film #3 instead.

3. Frozen – (In theaters Nov. 27) – Nice

Let’s be honest: what are the holidays without a feel-good Disney movie? You can’t go wrong!

Plus, a strong female character, witty dialogue, and an adorable snowman sidekick? Seriously, how can you say no to this film?

This is a really cute movie that the whole family will be able to enjoy.

4. Black Nativity – (In theaters Nov. 27) – Nice

I really can’t say enough how phenomenal this cast is! Angela Basset (aka Marie Leveau to all of you American Horror Story fans), Forest Whitaker, Jenifer Hudson, and more. Talk about talent!
What’s even better is that this is a musical, and who doesn’t love to get into the holiday spirit with a few songs of the season?

5. Tyler Perry’s A Madea Christmas – (In theaters Dec. 13) – Naughty

Tyler Perry has done it again—dressing up as Madea and making us all uncomfortable, that is.
I can’t imagine how this movie would get me into the holiday spirit. Instead, even just the preview annoys almost every fiber of my being.
Now, I’m not usually a huge fan of Madea movies to begin with so I may be a tad biased. So, if this is your kind of thing, go for it, but I’ll be sending Mr. Perry a bag of coal for this one.
