The LSU football team has hired former Georgia wide receivers coach Tony Ball for the same position, the school confirmed Friday in a news release.
Ball replaces former LSU receivers coach Adam Henry, who left the program earlier in the week to take a job with the San Francisco 49ers. He spent the last nine years coaching running backs and receivers for the Bulldogs.
“Tony is a very talented coach who is a [Southeastern Conference] veteran,” said LSU coach Les Miles in the news release. “He’s going to be a real asset for us in the passing game. He’s going to be able to come in and take our group of receivers and develop them into great players. We are excited about having him join our staff.”
Ball graduated from Chattanooga, where he served two separate stints coaching receivers. He then became running backs coach at College of Holy Cross for three years before joining Louisville’s staff as its receivers coach from 1995-1997.
From there, Ball took up the position of receivers coach at Virginia Tech, where he remained for eight years. Ball also interned with the NFL’s Baltimore Ravens and Denver Broncos before landing the job at Georgia.
Ball takes over a group of young receivers who struggled to produce in LSU’s run-heavy offense in 2014. The Tigers were the No. 116 passing offense in the country, averaging only 162.9 passing yards per game.
