The LSU men’s basketball team was a different team than it had been in the previous two games, never trailing during its 71-60 victory against Alabama on Saturday night in the PMAC.
LSU sophomore forward Jordan Mickey led all scorers with 24 points on 7-of-11 shooting to go with 12 rebounds. It was Mickey’s 14th double-double of the season as he joined LSU’s 500-rebound club for his career.
As a team, the Tigers (17-6, 6-4 Southeastern Conference) shot 50 percent from the field and got to the line 38 times, connecting on 23 of their free throw shots. Sophomore forward Jarell Martin, sophomore guard Tim Quarterman and junior guard Keith Hornsby were also in double-figures for the Tigers.
Despite leading by 17 points at 17:12 mark of the second half, the Tide (14-9, 4-6 SEC) went on a 25-10 run to cut the deficit to 49-47 with 9:10 to go in the second half.
LSU surged back, going on a 8-0 run capped off by Jarell Martin’s bucket with 5:29 left in the game. From there, the Tide got only as close as eight points before the Tigers won by 11.
