DIED, May 24, 2012, of unnatural causes at her Howard Avenue residence, THE TIMES-PICAYUNE, New Orleans’ renowned daily newspaper, in her 175th year of age.
The native New Orleanian was born January 25, 1837, to newsmen Francis Asbury Lumsden and George Wilkins Kendall, who christened her “The Picayune” for her one-Spanish-picayune price. On April 2, 1914, she was wed to The Times-Democrat, a marriage of New Orleans’ – and two of America’s – oldest daily newspapers.
