In light of the recent landfall of Hurricane Harvey, LSU’s football season opener against BYU will move from Houston to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, according to ESPN.
The decision was made by LSU and BYU officials Monday afternoon.
Harvey made landfall Friday night near Port O’Connor, Texas as a Category 4 storm and has left more than 300,000 houses without power along the Texas coast, according to CNN.
With Southwest Texas’ focus on Harvey, the much-awaited LSU season opening football game will be moved from Houston’s NRG Stadium to New Orleans’ Mercedes-Benz Superdome with the date and kick-off time to be announced.
This will be the fourth LSU football game in three seasons that has been moved or canceled due to weather.
The clash between LSU (0-0) and BYU (1-0) was originally scheduled for September 2 at 8:30 p.m in Houston, Texas.
