After vaulting into the top 25 this week, the LSU men’s tennis team travels to College Station, Texas, to challenge the Texas A&M Aggies this Saturday at 1 p.m.
LSU (5-0) jumped three spots to No. 23 after defeating Southeastern Louisiana University on Monday, 6-1. Overall, the team has outscored opponents 32-2 this season.
Texas A&M (3-3) is ranked No. 19 in the nation. The Aggies dropped nine spots in the rankings after losing to the University of Miami last weekend.
However, according to head coach Jeff Brown, a coaching decision by the Aggies contributed to the loss to Miami.
“Their top two players were suspended for that match against Miami,” Brown said. “So they ended up forfeiting the No. 6 position, and they ended up forfeiting a doubles [match], so you have to throw that one out.”
“They’re closer to a top five team then they are to the drop [to No. 19].”
The Aggies boast the No. 5 doubles team in the nation in Lester Cook and Ante Matijevic. LSU counters with the No. 24 combination of Jason Hazley and Bryan Fisher and the No. 73 duo of Sebatian Rutka and Cory Ross.
LSU knows the Aggies strengths and weaknesses, according to Brown.
“We know their personnel pretty well,” Brown said. “They’ve got a couple of freshman at the bottom, but all the guys at the top we’ve seen before.”
