With LSU graduation just days away, students are working towards what’s next.
For some students it may be the military or Graduate school, but for others they are looking into the job market. One organization is bringing the professionals to students without them ever having to leave campus.
The Nu Psi chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. hosted their annual Career Exploration event to connect LSU students with professionals across multiple fields.
From Chancellors, Executive Directors to Hygiene Specialists students got to hear and network with professionals taking home nuggets of advice as they prepare for the next step.
“I think events like this are important because students get the opportunity to hear from people who are in the industries and were once in their shoes,” Junior Isaiah Fernandez said. “It kind of gives them inspiration to see that people just like them are doing what they want to do.”
According to the Association of Public and Land-Grant universities college graduates are half as likely to experience unemployment than their peers whose highest degree is a high school diploma.
LSU tries to connect students with the resources to prepare for the workforce. President William F. Tate says it’s on them to leverage the university’s resources in their favor.
“The whole purpose of coming here is obviously to get a great education but it’s also a platform for opportunities outside of LSU,” Tate said. “But the way to get there is to leverage LSU, take advantage of undergraduate research, study abroad, internships and the network of LSU Tigers all over the world.”
The LSU Career Center is a great way for students to learn of opportunities all over, they are located on the First Floor of the LSU Student Union.
