The Companions Animal Alliance is offering LSU Veterinary students new opportunities to gain experience at their facilities off of Burbank.
Vet students can contribute to anything ranging from daily hygiene and socialization to surgical procedures the rescue offers. The CAA volunteer manager Haylie Loyd, who’s been with the rescue since last year, helps to provide options to every student, not just vet med.
“Any volunteer can do it, even if you’re not a stem major,” said Loyd. “We have a lot of people who maybe aren’t in college anymore who do it, we’ve got some English majors who do it and everything like that.”
“It’s really for anybody to dip their foot in, but I think that a lot of general stem majors are going to get a lot out of it. Just because it is a very much a different look into the practical applications into the things they’re learning.”
The CAA is constantly training new volunteers and accepting applications all year long, interested students can visit their website at caabr.org or go in person to their on-campus location.
