The Board of Supervisors announced newly-selected LSU President Wade Rousse would have a new position under him.
After naming Rousse as president Tuesday, Board of Supervisors Chair Scott Ballard announced presidential finalist Jim Dalton would be the system’s executive vice president and chancellor – the same position he held at the University of Alabama.
As executive vice president, Dalton will oversee the research conducted at the Baton Rouge campus, Pennington Biomedical Research Center, the LSU AgCenter and the health science centers in Shreveport and New Orleans.
As chancellor, he will oversee operations at the Baton Rouge campus.
Rousse will handle external and governmental affairs, he said, as well as decisions regarding LSU Athletics.
Ballard said the new position would assist Rousse as president and help LSU amid the system’s continuing growth.
“The university’s success depends on a leadership structure that promotes unity and alignment across all campuses and functions,” Ballard said.
This follows the organization the university had until the president and chancellor positions were merged in 2012.
Rousse has been emphasizing structure in his interviews and at the forums he attended. He said he will implement enhanced organization structure upon taking office, starting with collaboration with Dalton.
Dalton expressed his excitement when he accepted the position.
“I didn’t envision taking on this role that we talked about in this partnership, but I’m just so excited about it. I could not imagine a more perfect partnership with Dr. Rousse,” Dalton said. “It’s a great opportunity for me and it’s a great partnership with this man.”
