LSU Men’s Basketball faced off against Texas A&M on Saturday on Senior Day. Max Mackinnon, Pablo Tamba, PJ Carter, Rashad King , Marquel Sutton and Jaden Bobbett were all honored pregame and then geared up for their last home game at the PMAC.
The game started off very slow for both teams but it quickly heated up during the beginning of the first half. Sutton and Mackinnon lead the charge as the Tigers went on 8-0 run to build a double digit lead.
The Aggies started to climb their way back into the game. Texas A&M forward Rayshaun Agee and guard Rylan Griffen,lead the charge with 14 points each in the first half, cutting the lead down to 38-33 going into halftime.
In the second half, both teams were trading blows, up until the final couple seconds of regulation. Down two with 38 seconds remaining, Sutton grabbed a rebound after a missed free throw and drove through the lane to tie the game 70-70.
A&M and LSU both had opportunities to win the game in the final 18 seconds, but they both missed, sending the game into the first overtime.
In the first overtime, the Aggies were leading 79-77 with 42 seconds remaining. After Agee missed a free throw, LSU Guard Jalen Reece went down the court and hit a jumper with under 7 seconds left to tie the game at 79. A&M had another opportunity to win the game but failed, sending the game into double-overtime.
In the second overtime, LSU held an 83-81 lead with 1:04 left to play. A&M guard Marcus Hill gets a layup to knot the game up at 83. Hill was later fouled, and then hit a free throw to give the Aggies a 84-83 lead. LSU would miss a three and Griffen would make two more free throws to extend the lead to 85-83.
Mike Nwako would then draw another foul and hit both free throws to tie the game at 85-85, sending the game into a third overtime.
In the third overtime, LSU never led as the Aggies were finally able to pull away to win the game 94-91. Agee led all scoring with 26 points in 47 minutes.
The Tigers finished the season 3-15 in conference play. Going into the SEC Championship, the Tigers will face off against Kentucky on Wednesday.
