The second annual Custodial Appreciation Week took place this March at Louisiana State University.
The week, presented by the LSU Student Senate, was founded last year by Tyhlar Holliway, an LSU student and senate member, to highlight the daily work of custodial staff across campus.
Events began with a complimentary breakfast for morning staff and a dinner for evening staff. The week also included gifts, raffles and other tokens of appreciation organized by students.
Earlier in the week, students signed a banner in Free Speech Alley to show their gratitude.
Sponsors including LSU Dining, Residential Life and LSU Athletics partnered with the senate to fund the week’s events.
LSU Athletics also provided complimentary baseball tickets to custodial staff for games against Grambling and Oklahoma State.
Holliway said she hopes the event “lives long after me” and continues as a tradition at LSU.
Custodial staff members said they felt appreciated by the campus community.
“We feel appreciated, and we know that we are loved by y’all,” one staff member told reporter Mila Fair.
