LSU Softball defeated Ole Miss in the opening game of their weekend series, with a final score of 6-4.
Starting on the mound for LSU was Cece Cellura who pitched 4 innings with one strikeout giving up two home runs.
It was not until the 5th inning, when Paytn Monticelli was subbed in, for two innings, giving up two hits and then Jayden Heavener finished out the game with two strikeouts.
Pitching for the Rebels was Emilee Boyer who pitched a complete game, giving up eight runs, six hits, and had five strikeouts.
Ole Miss brought out strong hitting, with two home runs by Madi George and Madi Llamas. Llamas brought two runs in for the rebels.
LSU’s Kylee Edwards was a top performer offensively, hitting 2-3, with one home run and 2 RBI’s.
Tori Edwards was an offensive leader for the Tigers, going 2-3, scoring one run, and bringing four runs in. After a missed diving catch by Laylonna Applin in right field, T. Edwards was able to bring her teammates in and score, for an in-the-park grand slam, securing the victory.
The series will continue Saturday and Sunday as LSU is currently in the lead for the series. The game will be played on April 18, at 5:00 p.m. for the second game of the series.
