LSU baseball players Cade Arrambide and Jack Ruckert spoke to the media Wednesday afternoon to preview the team’s upcoming SEC series matchup against No.6 Georgia.
Arrambide, who has emerged as LSU’s top hitter since Easter Sunday’s win over Tennessee, understands the importance of keeping alive the Tigers’ postseason hopes this weekend. With a banged up roster from top to bottom, Arrambide noted how despite the injuries his team has dealt with, they haven’t given up yet and expect to battle it out in Athens over the weekend.
“I think we’re getting hot at the right time,” Arrambide said. “We need a lot of confidence going out there, especially since we’re banged up a little bit. If we go out there and play our brand of baseball and we compete to our best ability, I think we can hang and beat anybody in the country.”
Not only has the sophomore catcher stepped up his level of play, but also freshman infielder Jack Ruckert. Ruckert, who seems to have found his stride at second base, looks to continue his free-style of play against a team who is ranked No.4 in batting average in the nation.
“All I tell myself out there is give everything I got for LSU,” Ruckert said. “That’s kind of just helped me play freer and give everything I got. The next six games, we’re just going to leave it all out there. We’re super excited and can’t wait for the opportunity.”
For the Tigers to complete a series win over the Bulldogs, they need more than Arrambide and Ruckert to produce. With the uncertainty of star right-handed pitcher Casan Evans and senior outfielder Chris Stanfield starting this weekend, it’ll also be up to guys in the bullpen and in the infield to give LSU a shot at winning on the road.
LSU (29-21,9-15 SEC) is in desperate need of capturing wins in its final two in-conference series; otherwise, the Tigers might end their postseason hopes and miss out on the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2011.
LSU travels to Athens, Georgia to face No. 6 Georgia with game one starting Friday at 5 p.m. CT.
