Baton Rouge native and former LSU Forward Glen “Big Baby” Davis was arrested in February for the possession and distribution of drugs.
Davis, who spent four seasons with the Tigers before embarking on an eight-year NBA career during which he won a title with the Boston Celtics, was staying in a Hampton Inn in the Baltimore suburb of Aberdeen, Maryland when the hotel owner smelled marijuana.
According to a police report and court records obtained by WMAR’s Brian Kuebler, the owner knocked on Davis’ door but someone inside the room told the owner to “f*** off.” The owner alerted local police and Davis gave them written consent to search his room.
Aberdeen Police Lieutenant William Reiber said his officers discovered 126 grams of marijuana as well as a briefcase containing over $90,000 and a list of names of people believed by the police to be individuals who owed Davis money.
Davis, who told police officers he was in Aberdeen visiting family, was arrested and several weeks later indicted on drug possession and distribution. Davis’ lawyer told Kuebler that Davis maintains his innocence.
Davis is due in court in April in Bel Air, Maryland.
