Despite the freezing temperatures, LSU softball played Penn State in a double-header on Friday. The first pitch for the first game was at 3:30 P.M, and the final score was 10 – 1.
LSU did not let the brisk wind affect their performance and dominated the entire game. They shut down Penn State’s offense and destroyed their defense. Penn State finished the game with five hits and four errors compared to LSU’s seven hits and zero errors.
It was a quick five inning game that ended in a 10 run-rule.
Sydney Berzon pitched the entire game. Abigail Britton was the starting pitcher for Penn State, but after allowing four runs was replaced by Mady Volpe. Her first inning resulted in three up-three down, but she could not contain the Tigers in the bottom of the third and was replaced by Lydian Spalding.
Out of the three Penn State pitchers, Spalding allowed the least amount of hits.
LSU had 5 runs in the third inning, making the score 9 – 0. They scored their final run in the bottom of the fourth, which ended the game.
Penn State remained scoreless until the top of the fourth, when Maddie Gordon scored her team’s first and only run.
LSU softball gave out free t-shirts hoping to attract some more fans to come support, but the cold weather kept most fans inside. Even though it was a scarce game, the fans were just as loud and supportive as usual.
LSU remains undefeated, and Penn State adds another loss, making their record 3 – 8. LSU will play Southern Miss and Nicholls twice before the weekend concludes.
