The Forward Foret-Tatman campaign for Student Government was disqualified after an election court ruled the ticket guilty of bribery.
The court ruling comes after a complaint from members of the Henderson-Layrisson campaign, accusing Nick Foret, Forward’s presidential candidate of bribing members of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.
Foret offered to take any member of the ATO fraternity out to dinner in exchange for their support for the Forward campaign.
The offer was brought to the attention of the chapter by Alpha Tau Omega president, Jake Zubrzycki during their weekly chapter meeting on Mondays.
“On January 30th I met with Alex Foret in his home to talk about his campaign. We had a positive conversation. At that meeting, however, I never endorsed, affiliated, or associated myself with the Foret campaign,” Zubrzycki stated in his Affidavit. “ I cannot understate how disinterested I am in Student Government.”
This statement by Zubrzycki was deemed false after former member of Alpha Tau Omega, John Michael Shiner, screenshotted evidence that the bribery did occur.
“Shiner claimed that by signing the affidavits they would be “saving my a**.” Four members of ATO were misled and proceeded to sign the affidavits without communicating with Me,” Zubrzycki stated.
The former campaign has released a statement regarding these events.
“Despite a recent decision made by a select few, which bypassed the voices of over 40,000 LSU Tigers, the spirit of this campaign remains unbroken,” Foret said in a video posted to Forward’s Instagram account. “This decision does not deter us from our mission to serve and advocate for every student.”
