LSU Softball defeated the Florida Gators 10-2 in the final game the series. With that win, the Tigers also take the series 2-1. Despite losing the first game 14-4, the Tigers stuck with it and won the next two games.
In Mondays outing, LSU’s Jayden Heavener got the start and threw two innings with four strikeouts and one earned run. Then Sydney Berzon came in to relieve her and Berzon pitched a great game once again.
On Sunday Berzon pitched a full game only giving up one run. The next day she pitched four innings and only gave up one run again. In the two games Berzon appeared against Florida, they only managed to put up three runs. Berzon played a big role in LSU’s comeback.
“Just never count the Tigers out,” Berzon said. “No matter what happens in the beginning, we talked about always throwing the last punch. And I think we were able to show up this weekend and do just that.”
On the offensive side, outfielder Jadyn Laneaux went 3-3 with three hits, two RBI’s and one run. Head Coach Beth Torina says that it’s nice to see a player like Laneaux do good after all the work Laneaux’s put in.
“She watched us play a lot last year and never cashed in, never checked out, never stopped working,” Coach Torina said. “And she’s reaping the benefits of that right now.”
In Monday’s victory the Tigers scored eighth runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to run rule the Gators. In that inning, the Tigers were walked six times and they even got a walk off walk to seal the game.
In their next match up, the Tigers will head over to Arkansas to face off against the Razorbacks who are one of the hottest teams in the SEC as of late. First game of that series kicks off on Thursday, May 1 at 6 p.m. CT inside Bogle Park in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
