LSU Baseball won the defensive battle against Arkansas, 4-1, in Game 4 of the College World Series.
LSU caught an early three-run lead, causing Arkansas to relieve their ace pitcher Zach Root before the second inning was through.
“Coached enough games here knowing that playing with a lead is really important,” LSU Baseball Head Coach Jay Johnson said when he spoke to the media following the game.
Winning the game on Saturday sends LSU in the winner bracket. THis bracket comes with more rest, if the Fighting Tigers continue to win. This is not something Johnson claims he dwells on. He knows the tournament is double-elimination, so he takes it one gameplan at a time.
“So I think anytime you make it more, you’re taking your focus off of execution, and that’s not what we do,” Johnson said.
A never-ending phrase from Johson and the team is “playing their brand of baseball.” Johnson touched on what that looked like during the game and throughout the season with one word.
“Maturity,” Johnson said.
LSU did what they needed to do to win the game, and that is pretty mature.
