It’s been a chaotic 48 hours within the LSU Football program with the firing of Brian Kelly and Joe Sloan. Interim Head Coach Frank Wilson was able to put some of the fanbase’s worries at ease during his first meeting with the media.
Wilson addressed concerns over the emotions in the locker room, stating that this team is taking the moment as an opportunity to rally and come together.
“We’re all in. We are all in to finish what we started,” Wilson said.
“It’s been hard, it’s been a ray of emotions.. but we’ve been here for one another,” Wilson said.
Wilson stated that the team has been together everyday since Sunday, something that is not common practice during a bye.
“We have been here together. We have bonded closer. We have taken up slack for those who may not have been as strong as others to be supportive of one another,” Wilson said.
Wilson also stated that at this time, none of his players have chosen to opt out of the remainder of the season.
“For me, it’s being totally focused on capturing our football team to live in the moment,” Wilson said.
The New Orleans native spoke about how he is all in for LSU, and the Purple and Gold means more to him.
“I started as a junior high coach…it’s extremely humbling,” Wilson said of this new opportunity.
“I recognize this moment, this opportunity is so much bigger than me. I just happen to be the caretaker at this moment for this wonderful institution that we so love,” Wilson said.
“I will do my very best and die trying to represent us as a university, as a state, as a community,” Wilson said of his own convictions.
Moving forward, Wilson reassured the media that the Tigers are still focused on the goal at hand, and are prepping for Alabama with everything they’ve got.
“In the midst of the chaos and confusions and the whilr-wind…we have opportunity,” Wilson said.
“We have the ability to be able to run the ball and to have relief in the passing game…if we do that, it will allow our game, our team, our offense to be that much more effective,” Wilson said.
Wilson will steer the ship for LSU until the end of the season, but this Tigers team is pushing full speed ahead despite the recent shakeups.
