LSU Women’s Basketball Head Coach Kim Mulkey spoke to the media following a 115-26 win against Southeastern Louisiana.
Mulkey commented on the team’s ability to gain and maintain control from the start of the game to the finish.
“You have to find things through the course of a game to keep kids motivated,” Mulkey said.
Mulkey says the team has been working on quick hands and ball pressure in practice, which was executed against SLU.
“When you just pressure the ball, good things are going to happen,” Mulkey said.
When asked what makes a player stand out as a top-five team, Mulkey said the love of the game is just as important as talent.
“You never know heart,” Mulkey said when asked about the five freshmen on the team. “You can watch them and evaluate their talents when you’re watching them in AAU and in their high schools. What you don’t know is… when you have them every day, what are they going to bring to the table when you’ve got to play hard and practice.”
Mulkey specifically highlighted junior guard MiKayla Williams as a key player to the team and someone to watch as the season progresses.
The Tigers will face Georgia Southern University on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Georgia, where they hope to continue their season-winning streak.
