LSU Head Coach Beth Torina met with the media after the Tigers’ 1–0 win over Howard, and her message was clear: the pitching set the tone, and the offense is still building toward what it can be.
Torina opened with high praise for freshman pitcher Ashlin Mowery, who earned her first career win in her first collegiate start, retiring the first ten batters she faced.
“I thought Ashlin gave us the start we needed today,” Torina said. “She went out, she looked confident, she controlled the zone, she did a really nice job today and got her first win as a Tiger. It was a good day for her.”
While the pitching and defense were sharp, Torina noted that her staff is working to find the right lineup for offense. Her belief in the group has not changed, but one run is not enough.
“I think still searching, you know, trying to find the right answers here a little bit,” Torina said. “At the end of the day, I think we just double down on our process. We know we have a great team. We know we have great hitters and you know, I think that they will come around. I’m confident in this team and confident in the future of what they’re going to be.”
The Tigers will hit the road and face McNeese in their next matchup.
