Within the walls of LSU Football’s multi-million dollar facility is one of the best athlete recovery rooms in all of college football. Outside of those walls down the road on Florida Blvd. lies the Move Your Body Yoga studio. Within the studio lies Kim Walker and her team, the ones behind LSU Football’s form of newest recovery; Hot Yoga.
In collaboration with the LSU’ defensive room, Kim hosts the team for weekly classes as a part of their day-to-day recovery process.
LSU Defense specializes in Hot Yoga which is the practice of traditional yoga poses, athletic exercises whilst in a temperature of up to 90 degrees.
“It is more focused on wellness for athletes in terms of stretch, mindfulness, and mobility. We take them through traditional yoga postures that help build their bodies from the inside out.” Said Walker.
Though Move Your Body is mostly recognized for their work with local university athletics including LSU and Southern University, they offer a variety of classes for the general public.
Jaamal Mohomad is a frequent participant of Move Your Body and goes weekly to manage his stress as a college student studying engineering.
“Anything you do inside the gym, outside the gym, like I said helps me with my anxiety, helps me with weight lifting.” said Mohomad when asked on why he enjoys spending so many hours in the studio every night.
With spring practice kicking off earlier this week, the Tigers are in definite need of an efficient and balanced recovery plan, and Move Your Body Yoga has found a customized way to do just that.
