It’s now six losses in a row in SEC play for LSU as Texas A&M took the series sweep at Alec Box Stadium to make it six consecutive losses in conference play.
Texas A&M started strong, scoring all its runs in its first four innings. Pitcher Zac Cowan struggled, allowing four runs throughout the first three.
Similar to the second game of the series, where the starting pitcher’s lack of strikeouts cost the Tigers the game, as after William Schmidt was the only player allowing runs on Saturday.
“I think if we get a little bit more, not a lot more, a little bit more from our starters, with that contribution, we are going to be in games.”
It took the Tigers eight innings to put points on the board. Although the team has struggled offensively, Sheerin believes that they are capable of great things.
“We just have to realize that we’re ultra talented and really put our minds to it. Everybody on the team, one through 40, is capable of going out there and performing.”
With one month left in the regular season, Sheerin understands that there’s a lot of baseball to be played before the playoffs, as they are four weeks away from the SEC Championship. Tough opponents on the way, including the best team in the conference, the Georgia Bulldogs.
“Yeah, like I said, it’s all in front of us. I think, you know, it’s just we got to look in the mirror and figure out how bad we really want it.”
Coach Johnson is frustrated as this season hasn’t gone their way. He’s compared this team to his others from previous years, constantly mentioning how they have underperformed.
“You know, two of the last three years, it’s been a lot of fun to show up here. It’s not fun right now, but you still have to — you know, that’s my job, it’s my coaches’ job. In these players’ lives, this is the most important thing for them.”
With only six wins against conference rivals, the Tigers are at the bottom of the SEC standings with a 6-12 record, just above South Carolina (5-13) and Missouri (3-15). The next game for LSU will be played on Tuesday against New Orleans at Alex Box Stadium.
