The LSU Baseball team picked up a crucial victory Tuesday night at home against the Tulane Green Wave.
Coming into Tuesday night’s game, LSU had to win five of their last seven games to receive a post season berth, and given that Tulane is a notch below the Tiger’s final two opponents (Georgia and Florida) this game was a must-win.
The scoreless tie was short-lived as by the second batter of the game for LSU, the score was 2-0 thanks to a two-run shot to dead center field off the bat of Cade Arrambide.
The runs kept coming in the first for the Tigers as Derek Curiel walked then Steven Milam and John Pearson roped back-to-back RBI doubles helping LSU jump out to a 6-0 lead.
Green Wave pitching had it tough to begin this one as they did not record an out until seven batters in when Jack Ruckert hit a deep fly ball that was caught by the center fielder.
LSU followed up this massive inning with another crooked number in the second as Milam slammed another double that knocked in two Tigers. Seth Dardar also added an RBI as he squeaked a seeing-eye single past the second baseman.
On the mound for the Tigers, Danny Lachenmayer got the start and the win. Lachenmayer, who is usually a reliever, went three strong innings allowing only one run while striking out five.
Lachenmayer’s defense is also to credit as the Tigers made several ineffable plays including when catcher Cade Arrambide snagged a foul pop-fly while sliding into the padded backstop.
If LSU wants to continue its season after the SEC tournament concludes, this quality of play will need to continue as one mistake can cost the squad a post season appearance.
The team’s next challenge is against No. 8 Georgia in Athens as they will play a three game series beginning on Friday.
