LSU Softball wins its second game of the Baton Rouge Regional against the Virginia Tech Hokies with another 8-0 run rule finish.
The Tigers have to be extremely impressed with this victory.
Coming into the contest, there were some questions about how the Tigers matched up against the Hokies, who came in as a top-five team in batting average in the country.
Those questions were easily answered as the Tigers would hold the Hokies to only two hits in 20 attempts at bat.
A large part is due to the game from pitcher Cece Cellura.
The junior pitcher was just on another level. She walked one batter, only allowed two hits and closed the game with three strikeouts.
The score looks worse than what the game actually showed. The game was very defensive for the majority.
The Tigers and Hokies battled it out, though Virginia Tech could not get it going offensively, and were never truly out of this game as LSU couldn’t find momentum either..
However, the LSU offense woke up to close out this game in the bottom of the 6th inning. In the final inning, the Tigers scored four runs to put a bow on this matchup.
With the victory, LSU moves to 2-0 in the Baton Rouge Regional.
The Tigers are in action again Sunday, and they await to see who their opponent will be.
Virginia Tech faces the winner of the elimination bracket game between South Alabama and Akron, then the winner of that game faces LSU.
With every other team having one loss, LSU only needs to win one of the possible two games Sunday to move on to the next round.
