UPDATE 11:10 a.m.: LSU Sports Information Director Michael Bonnette confirmed via text message that sophomore punter Brad Wing is suspended for the Chick-fil-A Bowl.
Bonnette said in the text message that Wing’s suspension is due to a violation of team rules, but did not specify which rule he broke.
The athletic department announced in a news release that “Wing will be replaced in the lineup by freshman Jamie Keehn.”
LSU sophomore punter Brad Wing has been suspended for the Chick-fil-A Bowl, according to a report from NOLA.com’s Jim Kleinpeter.
The suspension has not yet been confirmed by the LSU Athletic Department and LSU Sports Information Director Bill Martin did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
TigerRag editor Cody Worsham cited a source in the LSU Athletic Department that said the Australian-born punter’s suspension stemmed from a failed drug test.
Wing burst onto the national scene as a freshman last season, averaging 44.4 yards per punt while garnering First-Team AP All American honors and was named a semifinalist for the Ray Guy Award – given each season to the nation’s top punter.
The Melbourne, Australia native followed his sensational freshman campaign by landing 21 of 59 punts inside the 20-yard line this season, while averaging 44.8 yards per punt.
In Wing’s absence, fellow Australian native Jamie Keehn will presumably handle the punting duties.
Keehn only punted three times this season, averaging 41 yards per kick, with a long punt of 51 yards.
