The No. 21 LSU softball team fell to No. 1 Georgia, 8-0, on Saturday in five innings.
Junior pitcher Brittany Mack fell to 5-3 on the season surrendering four runs on four hits in only two innings of work. The Tigers (15-9, 0-4) dropped their fourth straight to open Southeastern Conference play and the second straight to the Bulldogs (20-1, 2-0).
LSU again struggled to muster any offensive production, as Georgia freshman pitcher Morgan Montemayor held the Tigers to only four hits. Freshman outfielder Simone Heyward provided half of LSU’s hits.
The Tigers loaded the bases with two outs in the first inning, but sophomore catcher Lauren Houston ground out to end the threat.
LSU looks to avoid the sweep Sunday at 12:30 to close the series.
