This past weekend LSU Baseball kicked off their preseason with intrasquad scrimmages inside Alex Box Stadium.
LSU sent 11 players to the MLB Draft and lost 11 players to the transfer portal in 2024, leaving the Tigers with only eight returning players.
Coach Jay Johsnon and his staff brought in 25 new faces to Baton Rouge, 10 of those being freshmen and three of those freshmen being pitchers.
Time will tell if they can handle the pressures of SEC baseball. Pitching Coach Nate Yeskie spoke on how different “The Box” is when the season truly starts.
“Made it through the draft pretty good. So the talent of the freshman is there. They just, they need miles on their tires and no way about doing it other than to just go out and do it,” Yeskie said.
“And I think that’s going to give them ultimate feedback. You can simulate all you want in scrimmages, but until you put 10,000 fans in there and, and a little excitement, a little noise, it, it just hits different.”
LSU opens the 2025 season on February 14 when the Tigers play Purdue Fort Wayne inside Alex Box Stadium.
