LSU Baseball dropped its first midweek game of the season Tuesday night getting run-ruled by Northwestern State 13-3.
This devastating loss comes just days before LSU is set to take on the reigning national champions, the No. 6 Tennesee Volunteers.
In a post-game press conference with the media, Johnson spoke about how the loss could “have nothing to do with this weekend,”. Johnson elaborated, saying if his players want to be successful in the Majors one day they have to “develop that ability to move on, move forward. You also have to be able to deal with and confront failure and frustration and not let it get in your way,”.
After the loss, a frustrated Johnson had no words for his players.
“I didn’t really have the right words so I chose not to use any. I’ll text them tomorrow…there just wasn’t a whole lot to say,” Johnson said.
The loss was a result of many factors, including lackluster arms on the mound, and errors in the field. When asked if he thought this performance could have been because of the hour-long weather delay that took place at the top of the third, Johnson implied that the performance spoke for itself.
“We gave up six runs largely because of free bases. We gave up a three-run homer, and then gave up another run due to a free base so it wasn’t very good play. It wasn’t very good baseball from the mound and defensively,” Johnson said.
“The play was not good tonight,” Johnson reemphasized.
“Every facet of it was not good tonight,”.
Johnson’s Tigers will look to turn things around at practice on Thursday as they prepare to battle Tennessee at home this weekend in the Box.
First pitch of the weekend series will be thrown at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, April 25.
