LSU is coming off their best offensive performance against Southeastern. The Tigers scored on eight consecutive drives. This week they look to face Ole Miss at the Vaught.
For the next few months the Bayou Bengals will face some challenging SEC opponents, so it was essential for the LSU offense to iron out any last kinks.
The offensive line still lacks consistency, but Brian Kelly stressed how they are continuing to gel together each week.
“We’re developing the continuity in the offensive line, but we have weapons on the outside,” Kelly said.
Ole Miss has been playing two quarterbacks since the start of the season, and the Rebels are expecting to do the same this Saturday. The last time the LSU defense faced two different quarterbacks against Texas A&M last season, it was a mess to say the least.
Kelly does not anticipate Simmons and Chambliss causing the same havoc because, unlike last year, the two quarterbacks are a lot more similar in their play style.
“They have different skill sets, but they can run the same offense with both players,” Kelly said.
“I’m not saying it is easier…but it’s not as that one is pro-style quarterback and not going to run, and the other one is simply a dual-threat.”
Kelly also gave injury updates on West Weeks, Trey’Dez Green, Caden Durham and Gabe Rutherford.
“West Weeks ran yesterday, I think we got him a 90%…so I would say he is probable.”
“He [Green] was pretty good in pre-game, and then we felt like, you know we could hold him back for another week.”
“Caden Durham will be a day-to-day situation”
“Gabe Rutherford has a subluxation of his shoulder, so he is out this week.”
There is a chance Rutherford may need surgery.
