Following a 24-19 loss to Ole Miss, LSU Football Head Coach Brian Kelly addressed the media as the Tigers prepare to regroup during their first bye week of the season.
With five consecutive SEC matchups ahead, including next week’s homecoming game against South Carolina, Coach Kelly emphasized the importance of staying focused and recovering.
“You want a little bit of recovery. You want guys to, you know, focus on their academics, catch up in the classroom. Then let’s go to work on the things we need to be better at.” Brian Kelly stated, highlighting the team’s plan to use the bye week to improve both on and off the field.
Injury updates were also provided on notable offensive players. The first being offensive lineman Paul Mubenga out with a high ankle fracture. Second being offensive tackle Weston Davis who is out with a possible concussion and fractured nose, which he suffered during warmups.
With injuries and recent game performances, many were concerned about the readiness of starting Quarterback Garrett Nussmeier. Which began conversations about potentially seeing more playing time from backup quarterback, Michael Van Buren, transfer from Mississippi State.
Despite the recent possible injury concerns, Kelly did confirm that Quarterback Garrett Nussmeier will not be benched, instead he will be given time to rest.
“We’re going to give Garret some time to rest here this week. Make sure he’s fully at 100%.”
The No. 13 LSU Tigers plan to bounce back before kickoff against the unranked South Carolina Gamecocks in Death Valley on Saturday, October 11.
