LSU Women’s Basketball defeated the Lady Lions of Southeastern, Thursday night in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
The win marked LSU’s second consecutive blowout to open the season, while also showcasing the strength of their highly anticipated freshman class.
Freshman Zakiya Johnson led the group with 16 points, while Bella Hines added 14 and Grace Knox chipped in for 11. The trio combined for a total 41 points, showing off the depth and balance of the new roster.
Hines emphasized the importance of playing defense as she stated “I just love playing defense. It’s one of my favorite things to do.”
The defense played a key role as they were able to smother the Lady Lions from the opening tip, forcing turnovers and limiting Southeastern to just 26 points for the game.
While the Tigers individual performances stood out, Thursday’s win was also a reflection of LSU’s continuously growing team chemistry.
“We really like each other. I think everybody is pulling for everybody,” said Senior Guard Flau’jae Johnson when asked about the team’s chemistry.
This victory moves No.5 LSU to 2–0 as the Tigers continue their nonconference play. They will return to action on the road Sunday night against the Eagles of Georgia Southern before beginning official SEC play.
