Friday night was quite alright for LSU as in the first round of the NCAA Soccer Tournament, the Tigers put four past Houston Christian on their way to a 4-1 victory and a date in the second round.
The first half was mainly dominated by LSU. The Tigers not only dominated possession, but also had the Huskies outmatched. From outnumbering the Huskies on shots by 16-1, the half saw LSU in control.
Thanks to Sariyah Bailey in the 25’, the Tigers grabbed the first goal of the evening thanks to an impressive solo-run by the true freshman. Bailey’s goal helped set the tone for LSU, as the second half saw the momentum continue. Gabbi Ceballos added on another, sitting a defender down before slotting the ball away to put the Tigers ahead 2-0.
Houston Christian responded back thanks to Ella Remy in the 68th, but LSU responded immediately. Sariyah Bailey once again struck, scoring her second goal of the night, only to be followed up by Ida Hermannsdottir nine seconds later to put away the contest at 4-1.
With the victory, the Tigers advance to the next round of the NCAA Soccer Tournament. LSU will face off against Iowa, following the Hawkeyes victory over South Dakota State 1-0.
