LSU Football Interim Head Coach Frank Wilson spoke to the media on Saturday night following the Tigers 13-10 win over Western Kentucky.
In his opening statement, Wilson addressed the team’s lack of offensive production despite tonight’s game being senior night and the final home game of the season.
Newly-appointed starting quarterback Michael Van Buren struggled with accuracy against the Hilltoppers, although he was able to pick up significant yardage with his legs.
This season for the Tigers has been filled with unprecedented turbulence, and tonight that theme continued with several key players like Harold Perkins Jr., Caden Durham and Ory Williams exiting the ball game due to injury.
“I thought, you know, personnel wise, you lose your starting center, you lose your left tackle, then you put a different guy in, then he gets out…” Wilson said of the team’s injuries against WKU. “Our depth was tested tonight, and so it limits the things that you want to do to protect the quarterback.”
While the Tigers didn’t put on the performance most hoped for, there was still something worth celebrating as the family, friends and supporters of LSU football seniors gathered to see them take the field in Tiger Stadium for one last time.
Placekicker Damian Ramos, Zavion Thomas, Mansoor Delane, West Weeks and Garrett Nussmeier were among the 30+ seniors honored before kickoff.
“…You sat in their homes four years ago…it encapsulates their time from recruitment to graduation to the last home game,” Wilson said of celebrating the senior players. “I’m just glad we were able to have a victory for them.”
The Tigers hobble to a 7-4 record under the leadership of Interim Head Coach Frank Wilson, and will head to Norman to face the No. 8 Sooners with their eyes set on one last win of this regular season.
Kickoff at OU Memorial Stadium is set for Saturday, Nov. 29 at 2:30 p.m. CT.
