LSU Women’s Basketball hosted the Florida Gators Monday night in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. The Tigers defeated the Gators 89-60 to mark their fifth consecutive win in SEC gameplay. LSU now sits at 19-2 overall and 5-2 in conference play.
Despite opening the game with four missed shots and consistent physical threats from the Gators, the Lady Tigers went on to lead 22-19 in the first quarter.
But not before Florida’s Laila Reynolds managed to bite back, during a moment of momentum possessing the ball to a 27-26 advantage over LSU.
LSU was able to bounce back, eventually outrebounding Florida by 20 and shooting for 48.4% field goal attempts.
Leading scorers of the night for the Tigers were Guard Jada Richard and Forward Amiya Joyner putting up a combined 34 PTS and 13 REB for LSU. Joyner even finished the game earning her second consecutive double-double in SEC gameplay.
In order to remain successful in conference play, the Tigers must continue this physicality and build on the team chemistry.
The team chemistry seems to be the reason behind LSU’s success as Head Coach Kim Mulkey stated, “They really, really have a chemistry that is very unselfish. They want to all play now, but it’s not destructive in any way. I’ve never seen them get too high, I’ve never seen them get too low.
The Lady Tigers are set to be back on the prowl in the PMAC Thursday night, looking to pick up their 6th SEC win against the Arkansas Razorbacks. Tiger fans who are unable to make it into the PMAC can stream the matchup on SEC Network + at 7 p.m. CT.
