LSU Baseball Head Coach Jay Johnson addressed the media Thursday morning ahead of the 2026 Home Opener where they will face off against Milwaukee.
The Tigers are heading into the season as the reigning College Baseball National Champions and are looking to build on that momentum.
Coach started with providing the starting pitching lineup for this weekend’s series, which includes both team veterans and transfers.
“Casan Evans will pitch tomorrow, Cooper Moore for Saturday, and William Schmidt will pitch on Sunday.”
Casan Evans along with Derek Curiel both were recently named to the Golden Spikes award Preseason Watch List for the 2026 season.
Johnson also mentioned how difficult it is to have to choose the lineup for each game no matter the position which they decide to do not usually until the day of.
“We have a terrific bullpen on this team and a lot of options.” Coach Johnson went on to talk about the competitiveness in the pitcher’s position.
Coach talked about the privilege of being able to have such a well-rounded and talented roster because it allows flexibility for each game’s lineup.
“I think it’s good for the team when you can get more guys involved in winning,” spoke Johnson.
With the No.1 recruiting class nearly every season, transfers, and veterans it makes it difficult for coaches to determine who fits well and where due to all the talent.
First pitch is set for 2 p.m. CT at Skip Bertman Field at Alex Box Stadium as the No. 2 ranked LSU Tigers is set to host Milwaukee for a non-conference matchup to open the 2026 season.
