LSU Head Coach Matt McMahon announced early Saturday morning, Point Guard DJ Thomas Jr. will forgo surgery on his left foot which will seal the deal to his 2025-2026 season.
The left-foot injury has been a reoccurring problem for Thomas since just days before the start of conference play.
Thomas was a standout Point Guard for the Tigers in his first season with the Purple and Gold after transferring from UNLV. DJ was a leading scorer for the Rebels, 2025 All Mountain West Third Team member, and played an average of 35.8 points per game.
During his short first season with LSU, he served as an offensive powerhouse as well as an overall dynamic player on both sides of the ball.
“Since arriving on campus and earning his captain’s role, DJ has been a great teammate and a relentless competitor,” said Coach McMahon when asked about DJ’s leadership role on the team.
After missing the first five SEC conference games, Thomas was healthy enough to compete in the next three matchups. In his last matchup against Mississippi State before reaggravated his injury, Dj was a leader of the offense where he led an 18-point effort in an only four-point loss to a tough Arkansas team.
During his short time this season, Thomas led the SEC in assists and assist-to-turnover ratio until he was released from the rankings because of the 75 percent participation rule. He also played an important role in the LSU offense where he averaged 15.3 points in 16 games, 2.7 rebounds, and had 104 assists.
